Hi loves!

We’ve talked to a lot of friends and family who have gotten married over the past couple years. We seem to keep repeating the same advice, so we thought we’d share that advice with you too! Here are 5 Tips for you soon to be brides – from your photographers.

  1. Find a photographer to fit your style. There’s a TON of photographers to choose from. The search can be super overwhelming! Our best advice is to find someone whose work you love and whose style fits your wedding. A moody romantic wedding meshes super well with a moodier kind of style. Also, you should love your photographers personality! They’ll be with you most of the day!
  2. Take advantage of an engagement session! There are a lot of photographers that include an engagement session in your wedding package. We continuously get brides that say they need one or that has a family friend that is taking them, and that’s totally fine! However, if it already comes with your package you might as well take that opportunity to get more comfortable with your photographer. Everyone works differently and has different poses that are their favorite. Chances are they’ll probably use those same poses or prompts during your wedding day. Knowing how your photographer works will give you that much more peace of mind during your wedding day. Practice makes perfect!
  3. Plan your timeline with your photographer. Most photographers LOVE to help you plan the order of events! If you’re photographer is a natural light photographer like us, we can give lots of advice on when to do your portraits, and give a good estimate on how long to set aside for details, first look, formals etc. You don’t have to do exactly what we say! But it takes a lot of planning and location scouting on our part, and communication before the big day is sooo essential for your day! Which leads me to my next point…
  4. TRUST your photographer! Please. Just do. We don’t mind taking photos in that super dark corner by those really black evergreen trees, BUT it doesn’t fit our style and really it’s wasting time, for us and you! We’re only there for so many hours and we truly truly want you to LOVE all of your portraits! Trust in our decisions, we only want to put you in the most flattering light.
  5. Hire a planner or designate someone to be in charge. Word of advice from a previous bride. Delegate someone to receive the florist, tell the DJ where to set up, get a crew to finish the decorations and do last minute details, get the cake set up, and on, and on, and on. Outsourcing this to a close (very organized) friend or planner will seriously take all this stress of of you and your groom so you can both hang out with your bridal party, and family. We took asked some close family friends to do this for us and we’re SUPER glad we did!

Relax and ENJOY your day! It does you no good to be worrying about your pictures (or little details for that matter). That’s why you hired us! We’ll take care of our end, and we expect you to have fun and enjoy your day. Seriously, savor every moment. Our wedding day went by so fast, we totally get it when you need to take a breath to soak it all in!
